Mike comes from a musical family - his father, Ted, was a well-respected player, teacher and conductor. Mike appears to have boundless energy as a conductor. His musicianship and enthusiasm ensure that the band puts on "a great show" each and every time they perform. He's also an accomplished Euphonium player with a proven track record, having played with such bands as York Railway Institute and Yorkshire Imperial. He is now Principal Euphonium with the Shepherd Group Senior Brass Band in addition to his Concert Band conducting duties. Where does he find the time...?

Our Musical Director: Mike Pratt

The Concert Band is the next natural stepping stone from the Beginners’ Band and provides an opportunity for players of an intermediate level to gain more experience of performing. The aim of the band, under the enthusiastic direction of Mike Pratt, is to provide a more light-hearted and fun form of musical entertainment to the public, whilst working to develop the ability and technique of the players.

The Concert Band entertains audiences throughout the year during its very busy concert schedule, and has had its own taste of contesting success in recent years. The band is typically a third/fourth section standard and meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays at 7:30pm at the HiBay Conference Centre on the Portakabin™ site in Huntington, York.
